Design Brief
Within this project branding, paper system, kiosk interface, and wayfinding systems were produced for the event Urban Roots. The event mission was to communicate a pleasant and engaging experience for food desert communities where they learn how to plant, grow, and care their own food garden at home.
Process
How to create an oasis within food desert urban areas while making it approachable to all walks of life was the priority while designing. The visuals have a fundamental and child-like appearance, which give the space an air of ease and liveliness. Straying away from the green branded colors usually associated with causes and events similar to Urban Roots, and letting the plants become that pop of color. Urban Roots branding colors were heavily inspired by the primary colors used in the De Stijl movement, as well as the movements' goal in evolving society.
Research
Some urban areas are lacking is the resources to make their communities have healthy food easily accessible, and may not have the awareness of the possibilities of doing so. Groups such as the Ron Finley Project take action by assisting these neighborhoods create food oasis’s while also teaching all generations how they can grow their own food at home.
