DESIGN BRIEF
Goal of this project was to create a book cover for the Penguin book cover series "famous couples", where selected famous couples will be represented through their own individuality and how they are in the relationship itself. Their character is represented as a visual concept distant from who they are societally renowned for, and instead the qualities they contributed within the relationship.
DESIGN PROCESS
Beginning with mapping out negative and positive adjectives of both Ozzy and Sharon individually and how they engage in their relationship. Then sketching out the visual representation of the terms selected for potential book cover options. For Sharon, we selected resourceful, tolerant, and preserving, and for Ozzy we selected demented, daring, and amusing.
RESEARCH
The couple selected and portrayed for this book series edition is Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, one of the most profoundly enamoring couples in the celebrity industry. With this couples’ history, the "Troubled Saint" and the "Prince of Darkness," is how I would headline a description of Ozzy and Sharon Ozbourne’s relationship. With Sharon being the troubled unfortunate saint who has a toxic chemistry with the ‘escaped lunatic,’ the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne.
BEHIND THE SKETCHES
Then moving forward with sketches, both analog and digital, the bat hanging with a sewing needle and thread were selected. A bat with a sewn neck is to represent Ozzy, and this concept was chosen because of how demented and daring Ozzy was when he had decided to bite off a live bats' head during a live concert. While the needle and thread is to represent Sharon, as a resourceful and tolerant pillar in the relationship, where she has "sewn" the bats' head back onto its body, symbolizing her perseverance in the relationship.
